| Description | A Certificate of Origin (COO) confirms the country in which goods were produced and is used to claim preferential (reduced or duty-free) treatment under trade agreements managed by the Jamaica Trade Board Limited (JTBL). JTBL issues Certificates of Origin, under the Trade Act, for Jamaican goods that meet the rules of origin of the relevant trade agreement. Before a COO is issued, JTBL's Export Department carries out a product analysis, which includes a site visit and an assessment of the product, to confirm that it qualifies. Once the product is approved, the Certificate of Origin is issued. Exporters and customs brokers can apply through JSWIFT (the Jamaica Single Window for Trade). Exporters should apply well in advance of their planned shipment date to allow time for the assessment. |
